Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address for authentication and communication purposes only.

Health & Fitness Data

With your permission, DEFICIT reads data from Apple HealthKit, such as active energy, steps, weight, sleep and heart metrics, to calculate your daily calorie budget and draw your trends. Where a feature needs it (for example reading your trends on the web), this data is synced to your account. In line with Apple's HealthKit terms it is never used for advertising and never sold.

Food Log Data

Your food entries are stored on your device and synced to our servers. Sync is what powers cross-device access, backup and the Web Health Suite. Your food log is used to run DEFICIT's features for you and for nothing else. Never sold, never used for advertising.

Bloodwork

If you enter lab results, we store the values you typed so the app can chart them over time. DEFICIT explains what a marker is and never interprets your results. That conversation belongs with your GP.

AI Food Analysis (Pro Feature)

When you use the AI food scan feature, images are temporarily sent to our API for processing. Images are processed in real-time and are not stored on our servers. We use this data solely to provide calorie estimates and do not use it for training or any other purpose.

// ANALYTICS

We use anonymized analytics to understand how people use DEFICIT and improve the app. This includes aggregated data like feature usage and crash reports. We cannot identify individual users from this data.

We use the following third-party services:

  • RevenueCat: Subscription management
  • Apple App Store: Payment processing
  • Paddle: Payment processing for web purchases
  • OpenAI & Anthropic: AI food analysis (images not stored, not used for training)
  • Edamam: Nutrition database lookups
  • Cloud hosting providers that store synced account data on our behalf
